Agar plates gives you a more visual view of the bacteria growth but is limited in the amount of bacteria that can grow on the plate. With broth, you won't be able to see the bacteria colonies but you will be able to grow much more of the bacteria for sampling.
If you grow your bacteria in a broth tube you can view the oxygen requirements of the bacteria (close to the bottom, anaerobe: close to the top, aerobe)
Bacteria growing on a petri dish can have more than one bacteria growing on it, but different characteristics can be seen like cilia, motility and color. To know more specifically what those other bacteria strains are, get a sample and grow it on agar by itself.
