What are the Best sci fi and fantasy books?

I wouldn't be able to define THE best, as that is purely based upon the opinion of the reader. However, I can definitely recommend some good Fantasy Books:

J.R.R.Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.

Terry Pratchet's Diskworld series

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's DragonLance Series.

Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series.

And finally, my personal Favorite, David Eddings books, Including the Belgariad series, The Mallorean series and more.

Terry Pratchet's Diskworld series

I can definitely attest to the quality of all of these books having read and re-read them myself numerous times. Lord of the Rings is a great start off. The DragonLance Series is very good, Serious Fantasy stuff. The Sword of Truth is a bit more Adult, but brilliant writing and a nice chunky Series. The ultimate is The Wheel of Time, being a very large, extremely in-depth fantasy novel.

Also there's a really nice series by Scott westerfeld.

They are sci fiction. Really nice, i think you will love them if your into sci fiction (:
