In most forms of Buddhism, marriage is considered a secular matter. Thus, no marriage is restricted in scope, and married couples can see to their own affairs.

The Buddha himself did not restrict or endorse marriage.

Some forms of Buddhism (particularly those founded in Europe and the Americas) have their own marriage ceremonies, and comply with the secular laws regarding such matters.
