Answer
Unlike the space marines, the chaos use not chapters but legions. The most popular legions tend to be the black legion, the iron warriors, the emperor's children, the red corsairs, thousand sons and many others. The codex of The Smurfs or chaos will tell you in more detail
There are roughly a thousand, there isnt an exact number. Game Workshop has never released an official number of Chapters. As for Astartes themselves. There's roughly a million or so in the W40K universe unless you consider the chaos space marines.
No. You can however use lesser demons and demon princes in a Chaos Space Marine Army.
Yes.
"Beautiful Chaos" by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl has a total of 38 chapters.
It all depends on your playing style
AnswerThe Marines started out as 20 space marine legions[1]. After the Horus Heresy the Emperor was afraid of it happening again so he made chapters which have 1000 Space Marines each thus no-one can have a massive army and rebel, as Horus did. Now after the heresy, the loyal Space Marine legions were made into smaller chapters, it is said there are about a thousand[2]. From that 1000, 234 are named - discounting destroyed or missing chapters. This leaves around 764 unnamed Chapters.1) http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Space_Marine_Legion 2) http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/List_of_Space_Marine_Chapters

No, the Dark Angels are a chapter on their own, and the are regular Space Marines, servants of the Emperor who haven't fallen to Chaos. Their name is misleading however.

Yes and No. if your having a battle with some friends then by all means, Go ahead. Now if its part of a tournament then its a bit trickeyer, it manly depends on the chapters and the enemy. If its an Apocalypse battle then you can, no questions asked. you can even use two armies (unless its Space Marines and chaos or Eldar and Dark Eldar or Eldar and Necrons for they are enemy's no matter the surcumstances) Hope I've been helpful :)
