The blackshirts are the defenseive starters for the nebraska cornhuskers. Although, in the past, simply being a defensive starter was enough to obtain a blackshirt....under coach Bo Pelini, you have to earn the blackshirt. Which means no one on the defensive side is guaranteed a blackshirt.

At UNL (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) in football there is. It is for a defensive player who shows good leadership and athleticism. The Husker defense is nicknamed "the Blackshirts".
