According to my reading and understanding, the advantage of martial law during Marcos's time was that the people were disciplined and crimes totally vanished. I think also that convening the interim bansa was also one of the advantages.
The disadvantages were the death of democracy since the declaration had made people be mute for a moment and there was no freedom of the press, the rights of the people to speak and share their opinions about the current situation were totally denied and deprived. It also created a stronger military power, which caused harm to the civilians. Some of the military took advantages while they were close and the President needed them.
