What are the advantages and disadvantages of precedent?

advantages = it helps decide outcomes of difficult cases, it keeps order, It saves time, It gives us greater certainty in law, It avoids mistakes e.g. wrongful sentencing, It is more practical aka giving out same punishments for same crime

Disadvantages = there are too many cases for a judge to look over, it limits development within the law, it is too complex
