What are the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in your local culture?

The obvious advantage is the economic boon to the area where the tourists stay. Think of the hotels, buses, food, etc. that all equal jobs and money. Another advantage is the education of the public about ecology of an area or flora or fauna. If the "tour " is fact-based and unemotional, it could even convince some hard core enemies of environmental protection. A disadvantage is the disruption to the environment. It is not normal to the flora and fauna to have humans traipse through their home. If the frequency of this event is not CAREFULLY controlled it will destroy the environment that people pay to see. Yellowstone Park in the US is woefully an example of human visitors out of control. They stop willy nilly and take pictures and feed animals and walk off the marked path to trample the greens. Eco Tourism has to be careful not to destroy the very environment that it is attempting to promote and protect
