During the industrial revolution steam locomotives had many advantages, including:
1: Goods could be transported faster and in larger amounts than with horse drawn transport, boosting the industry.
2: It gave another reason to mine for coal.
3: It runs on anything that burns ( wood, coal )
The disadvantages are that:
1: it pollutes the atmosphere.
2: It disturbs farm animals.
3: It was expensive.
Diesel and electric powered transport are seen as more sophisticated, but steam trains are still to this day very iconic.
The name of the fist steam powered locomotive was rocket .
Live steam usually refers to a model steam locomotive. The machine is powered by steam which is produced by boiling water. The steam locomotive is like the one at the Disneyland Amusement Park.
The Tom Thumb locomotive was powered by a small steam engine, specifically a vertical boiler steam engine. This design allowed it to pull trains and be one of the first successful steam locomotives in the United States.

Trevithick's locomotive, 1804 was the first successful steam locomotive. BRANDON ROCKS
The first steam-powered locomotive that was developed by George Stephenson, was known as the Rocket.

The steam road Locomotive was invented by Richard Trevithick, but the first steam RAILWAY Locomotive was invented by George Stephenson. A Scottish inventor called William Murdoch, made the first Locomotive Prototype. Hope this helps!
A locomotive (also called an engine) is a vehicle that provides the power to pull (or push) a train. As well as the locomotive, the train consist of the vehicles which actually contain what is being transported. These can be either freight wagons, or passenger carriages. Locomotives are classified depending on how they are powered. The first locomotives were steam powered (a 'steam engine'), modern locomotives are either powered by electricity or by a diesel engine (an 'electric locomotive' or a 'diesel locomotive'). A steam train is a train which is being powered by a steam engine. Some passenger trains have diesel or electric motors under the carriages and do not need a separate locomotive.
It has been made so it travels faster.

The first steam powered locomotive to run on a railroad was invented (not discovered) by George Stephenson. It was completed and tested on July 25 1814.
