The same as using any computerised spreadsheet program. It can manipulate and calculate vast amounts of numbers accurately, and produce reports to show the results of the calculations.

As a long time user of LibreOffice (mainly writer and calc) I can see no disadvantages. It is a complete office suit, and is free - two very good advantages.

Absolutely - I use them regularly. The spreadsheet part of OpenOffice is 'Calc'
