Plural marriage allows for a larger pool of income for families-- three incomes are better than two.

It also allows for a woman to strive for her career, even with a child. Usually the mother takes greater care for the child and will have less options and time for a career; if there are two or more women in the family, the child will still be properly cared for by family while the mother is working. (Like a built-in day care, except without putting the trust into strangers)

Women won't face as much sexual pressure- there is less of an reason for the man to pressure his wife into sex when he can ask a different wife.

Many people have extramarital affairs anyways during monogamous marriages. Having the option of polygamy will make it so the person's other partners will have legal rights to their partner.

Why was David not judged for having seven wives?

Polygamy was not prohibited in ancient Jewish practice, but monogamy has always been favored over it and considered a far better system. The Rabbis of the Talmud were also in favor of monogamy over polygamy, thus leading the way to modern Judaism's utter lack of polygamy.

Can you have 7 wives?

It depends on the laws of the country or region you live in and the religious or cultural beliefs that you follow. In many places, polygamy is not legally recognized and may not be socially accepted. It is important to understand and respect the laws and customs of the society you are part of.

I understand that one can collect benefits if moving out of state what if one moves out of the country to marry The EDD site answers the intra-state move-not as to moving out of the country?

If you move out of the country then your benefits are terminated due to you being in another country and if you are going to get married over there then when you come back you will have to get a marriage license over here as well because this country will not recognize your marriage.

Is polygamy practiced today by Mormons banned from the Mormon Church?

Polygamy was banned from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) over 120 years ago in 1890. Those practicing polygamy today are not really Mormons, because they have been excommunicated (kicked out) of the Church. Anyone found practicing polygamy is immediately excommunicated.

What is the meaning of polygamy technically?

Polygamy is technically the act of having multiple spouses. Types of polygamy include bigamy (the act of having two spouses), polygyny (a man having multiple wives), and polyandry (a woman having multiple husbands).

How would you write a paper about the conflict perspective of polygamy. I'm stuck and cant think of where to start?

There several sources of conflict regarding polygamy. You could talk about the conflict among various religions over the issue of polygamy. You could talk about the social structure of the family and how conflict among the wives is handled. You could talk about personal internal conflicts about polygamy.

What is the percentage of countries that allow polygamy?

0%. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" Church) have been forbidden to practice polygamy for over 120 years. The practice of polygamy in the Mormon church was abolished in October 1890, and since that time anyone found entering into a polygamous marriage has been excommunicated from the Church. Those who disagreed with the polygamy ban broke away from the Mormon Church and started their own groups. Many of these groups are still in existence today. They sometimes are called "Mormon Fundamentalists", but they are not affiliated with the Mormon church and both groups (the Mormons and the Fundamentalists) see each other as apostates and don't want anything to do with each other.

Is same-sex marriage legal in Canada?

Yes. Polygamy is illegal in Canada. Those practicing polygamy in Canada most often cite freedom of religion laws, although the freedom of religion laws may not technically protect the practice of polygamy.

How do you marry a Mormon man that is already legally married and wants another wife?

Legally and religiously, you cannot. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) ended the practice of polygamy (multiple wives) over 120 years ago. If a Mormon man has a relationship with anyone that is not his one legal wife, he will be excommunicated from the Church. Polygamy is illegal in every western country. You cannot have a legal marriage to more than one person at a time. Even living with multiple women as though you are married to them even if you are not can get you a 5 year prison sentence in many states. Despite all this, there are some who practice polygamy. Many polygamists in the United States consider themselves 'fundamentalist Mormons'. They are not affiliated with the mainstream Mormon church, but belong to groups that broke from the Mormon church when polygamy was banned. Men in these groups typically have a legal marriage with their first wife, and then have a religious marriage ceremony to a second wife that is recognized by their church but not by the law. Exactly how this process happens depends on the particular group.

Can a Mormon have two wives?

The practice of plural marriage was officially abandoned in 1890, and the church issued an official manifesto ordering an end to polygamy. The Mormon Church no longer supports the practice of plural marriage, and requires its members to abide by the law. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons or LDS Church) ended the practice of polygamy in 1890, making an official public declaration against plural marriage. There are small groups that have left the LDS Church who have resumed the practice. The LDS Church excommunicates any person who practices polygamy.
