The way that small and large animal vets are set up are usually very different. Small animal (dogs, cats, ect.) vets usually stay in the office and the patients are brought to them. Very little travel is involved. Equine vets drive alot. With something as big as a horse it's much easier to have the vet come to the animal. So if your not into a lot of driving it may not be a good career choice.

Horses are very large, one of the largest of domesticated animals. The vet has to deal with horses that are not handled, have bad habits (biting or kicking) or panicked horses that are unpredictable. This is something you need to keep in mind.

And as with any kind of vet or doctor, you must deal with people. Anyone in a medical field, with the exception of research, needs people skills. You may be treating the animal but your dealing with the owners. So there is a lot to consider on this as a career choice.
