Polygamy or marrying more than one wife at a time was the rule in all centuries and per all religions including Judaism and Christianity. Even God prophets they were practicing polygamy. Accordingly, Islam religion did not allow polygamy but limited polygamy to four and subject to conditions (treating them equally, providing separate and private housing for each wife, getting the older wife (or wives) approval or allowing them to get divorced and other conditions). The very apparent benefits of polygamy are:
- reducing the divorce rate, and
- reducing the tendency to practice sex (oral and or intercourse sex) outside marriage.
