By teaching students the fundamental base question "What is art?" and leading them to believe that paint splatters on a wall are "art" we teach them that the requirements to have good art are non existent. I think yes we should broaden our horizons and accept new styles but a student turning a piece of paper with a few finger prints on it wont do.
Also if teachers give the students the impression that everything is art then shouldn't that student get an A for anything they turn in so long as it has their name on it? I think so. I believe that art should be an optional class outside of school. other enrichment activities all have similar topics of positives and negatives, so what do you think? What ARE the benefits of school enrichment programs? I enjoy art but do not think it belongs in public schools.
