When was the first nuclear reactor built?

The first demonstration nuclear reactor was built in USA by Enrico Fermi in Chicago Stadium. Fermi was an Italian Physicist, best known for his work on Chicago Pile-1 (the first nuclear reactor). on 26 June 1954, in the town of Obninsk, near Moscow in the former USSR, the first nuclear power plant was connected to an electricity grid to provide power to residences and businesses. Nuclear energy had crossed the divide from military uses to civilian applications.

Is nuclear waste a renewable resource?

The waste from nuclear reactors can in principle be reprocessed to extract plutonium, which can be used to fuel nuclear reactors. But this is not "renewable" it is just recycling fuel the reactor made, this process can at best multiply the amount available reactor fuel by roughly 100 times, then we run out. Only France reprocesses their nuclear waste, other countries have abandoned it largely from the unjustified fear that reprocessed plutonium reactor fuel might be "stolen" to build atomic bombs (normal power reactor generated plutonium has very high levels of the undesired plutonium-240 and plutonium-241 which make it impossible to build working atomic bombs with that plutonium).

What operating system is best for payroll booking cinema seats and for controlling a nuclear reactor?

please try and answer quickly as i have a gcse tomorrow and need to find the answers, thankyou

Is helium or carbon or hydrogen or beryllium the best ideal moderator for use in the core of a nuclear reactor?

Carbon is a very good moderator, for use in gascooled reactors, the others not.

Where is the best place in the Philippines to use nuclear?

Nuclear Energy in the Philippines has been a on and off subject for years. The reactor in Bataan was started in the 70s and was found to have over 4,000 defects. The Philippines sits on top of some of the world best Geothermal resources. Geothermal would be the green answer for the Philippines.

Why can't nuclear reactor in Japan be used ever again?

The worst damaged reactor would require complete demolition and rebuilding to repair it and the levels of radiological contamination in the area are unsafe for such work and of a nature as to make cleanup impractical. The best course of action at this time is encapsulation of the reactor to prevent further contamination of the surrounding area (much like at Chernobyl).

What is the best way to destroy a game system?

What are the best slogans on nuclear energy?

Critical mass is the blast! Proud sponcer of the atom bomb

Why do we have nuclear power plants?

We have nuclear power plants to generate electric power without the generation of green house gasses. Yes, these complex systems pose risks, but we do our best to design and build them so they operate safely.

When did North Korea breeder reactor start?

A breeder reactor is generally defined as a power generating reactor that breeds at least sufficient plutonium to replace the U235/Pu which it has consumed. To the best of my knowledge, North Korea does not have such a reactor.

How can you find the efficiency of an AGR nuclear reactor?

You can work out the gas flow from the gas circulator characteristics, and measure the reactor inlet and outlet temperatures, so you can work out the reactor thermal output. Then you can measure the thermal conditions in the steam circuit from feed flow and temperature and steam temperature and pressure, this will give the reactor thermal output together with the gas circulator heat input. From all this data work out the best estimate for the reactor output. The generator output is straightforward, then you have to subtract the power being used on the plant for driving the gas circulators and feed pumps etc, to get the net electrical output, then it is just the ratio of that to the reactor thermal output.

Is having a nuclear reactor necessary?

I don't think in any country it is really necessary, decisions were made on the best fuel supply foreseen in each involved country. In retrospect different decisions might have been made.
