I have a Roady XT. I cut a circular black of wood that looks about the size of half a soda can. I screwed the mount into that and I keep it in a cupholder. I can easily move it from car to car that way. To run the antenna, I ran it through the back seat (which opens) into the trunk and then onto the trunk lid. vbd
you can't do that

If your '97 is anything like a '96,remove the radio and the compartment under it.Remove that compartment and install the CD.Then install the whole unit. The CD should plug right into the rear of the radio. This link will show you all installation and pictures http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Toyota/PDF/869037.pdf
To install a manual antenna on a 1996 Toyota Camry, a hole will have to be drilled into a fender somewhere near a side mirror, if there isn't already one there. The hole should be smaller than the nut that will hold the antenna on. Thread the antenna wire in and connect to the back of the radio, then tighten down the nut to hold the antenna in place.

The battery has been disconnected. You will have to reenter the radio security code to reenable it.
