What are the chances of getting cancer twice?

People can get cancer more than once. I am not sure what are the chances of it coming back, I would consult a doctor.

It is not usual for someone to get two different cancers. Normally when some gets cancer 'twice', it is just that the first cancer wasn't entirely eradicated, and it's coming back for a second helping of you.

However, just as some people win the lottery more than once or get struck by lightning more than once, or atom-bombed more than once (ie people who traveled from Hiroshima to Nagasaki between Aug 9 and Aug 12, 1945), some people are unlucky enough to contract two different types of cancer.

Of course, environmental issues can be critical. If you are a smoker and spend a lot of time in the sun, then you shouldn't be amazed if you get both lung cancer and skin cancer.

Nobel-prize winning physicist Richard Feynman suffered from two different cancers, the second of which killed him, but he was involved in the Los Alamos atomic bomb project, and probably got exposed to significant radiation in that time.

Rebuttal:With early detection and aggressive and thorough treatment, cancer can be eradicated. The question becomes, "did your therapy actually remove all traces of the original malignancy?" If the answer is "yes", then there's an excellent chance that it will not return.

However, it's important to note that having cancer once does not prevent the subject from contracting cancer again, the way it does with the mumps. There is no particular immunity imparted by a first exposure.

I do want to emphasize though that cancer is not necessarily a death sentence. Nowadays, the odds on surviving cancer and obtaining a complete and full remission are often very good.
