What are the chances of the baby still being alive if your ultrasound shows you at 5.5 weeks and according to your last period you should be at 7 weeks?

Baby is fine. The Ultrasound is more accurate at estimating your term at 5.5 weeks, since you may not have gotten pregnant just after your period. The estimate of weeks is based on the baby's size and development. Unless the technician stated otherwise, the baby is fine. Actually, predicting the exact date of conception and birth is not an exact science, and can't be, since there are other factors that go into gestation.

∙ 17y agoA six-week discrepency is pretty severe. If you've missed two periods, you could be less than six weeks pregnant, so perhaps you miscalculated. Talk to your doctor about your concerns.

Yes it is quite comman for there to be a difference in the ultra sound and the persons calculations, often the person is correct.

You should be given an Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD) from both your last period AND the ultrsound, and they should match. If the ultrsound date is 2 weeks later than the period date it may be that you ovulated late in that cycle. The due dates for my pregnancies changed several times or more during the nine months. I'd follow the latest due date and you'll be so happy at the end if he/she arrives early. :)
