metals are hard, lustrous, malleable, ductile, sonorousand good conductors of heat and electricity. The materials which have this properties are called metals. Non metals are soft and dull when we take it into hand press hard they convert into powder. They are poor conductors of heat and electricity.

Metals:

1. Solid at room temperature (except Mercury)

2. Shiny/lustrous; mostly silvery white in color (except copper and gold)

3. high melting and boiling point (except the alkali metals)

4. hard and strong

5. malleable and ductile

6. high density

7. good conductors of heat and electricity

8. sonorous

Non-Metals:

1. Gases, volatile liquids or solids

2. dull if solid/non-lustrous, various in colors

3. low melting and boiling point (except carbon and silicon)

4. not uniform in hardness and strength

5. brittle if solid, not malleable, not ductile

6. low density

7. poor conductors of heat (except carbon (diamond and graphite)), non conductors of electricity (except carbon (graphite))

metals electropositive, basicity, hard, ductile, malleable, sonorous

nonmetals electronegative, acidic, brittle, and not all the other three properties.
