Liquor comes in a wide variety of styles, all of which have different ingredients.

Most liquor is distilled from fruits or grains. The distillation process concentrates the alcohol by removing the water from the fruits or grains (called the MASH). The alcohol is then boiled out of the mash and the vapor is cooled and collected and bottled.

Spirits (vodka, gin, rum) do not have sugar or flavors added to them after being distilled. Liqueurs, are sweetened with additional fruit, herb, or nut flavors.

Beer and wine are types of liquor that are not distilled. Beer is brewed using grain mash, malt, hops, yeast and water. Wine is made from crushed grapes, which are fermented with yeast. Wine can also me made form honey, yeast, and water (called mead).

Liquors, usually distilled liquors.

Fruit Juices.

Carbonated Beverages

Garnishes.

Not all cocktails contain all of the above. A Martini consists of liquors (gin and vermouth) and a garnish (an olive). A Screwdriver consists of liquor (vodka) and fruit juice (orange juice). An Old-Fashioned consists of liquor (Bourbon), a dash of bitters and carbonated beverage (club soda) and garnishes (cherry and orange slice). A Cuba Libre consists of liquor (rum) and carbonated beverage (Coca-Cola)
