Usually chapter 1 after the abstract includes background of the study, problem statement, purpose statement, nature of study, research question, and the literature review. If you are not a student (writing thesis or dissertation), then after the abstract and the key words, you will want to include the introduction, background of the study (may be), and the literature review.
