The Southerners didn't have a lot of factories, they only had small farmers that produced crops, they also had cotton that Europe needed.. The northerners on the other hand had a lot of factories and they manufactured a lot of goods..

the south was mostly an agricultural area and felt that slaves were nessecary for their way of life. the North mostly wanted to preserve the states and the union. they got angry when the South secceded. so two answers:

North is up on the globe and South is going down. There are diffrent temperature settings. Diffrent continents and countries are on either South or North part of the world. Diffrent Times.
