Simple diode is a two-terminal pn-junction with appropriate contacts for connecting the junction to external circuits.

Power diode is formed by alloying, diffusion, and epitaxial growth. The modern techniques in semiconductor fabrication processes permit the desired device characteristics.

The operation of power diodes is similar to that of signal diodes; but it has larger power-, voltage-, and current-handling capabilities than those of ordinary diodes. Switching speed of the power diodes is low compared to that of signal diodes.

Why power diode has more power ratings?

It will be dissipating more power than a small signal diode.

Is 1N4007 OA79 silicon or germanium diode?

The entire 1N40xx series of power diodes are all silicon. The OA79 small signal diode is germanium.

What is difference between power diode and ordinary diode?

the High voltage rated diodes are power diodes while of low rating or normal voltage rating are considered to as ordinary / normal diode

What is the difference between a one diode rectifier and a two diode rectifier?

A one diode rectifier is called a half wave rectifier and only allows current flow for the positive portion of the sine wave. A two diode rectifier, or full wave rectifier allows positive current flow during the positive portion of the wave as well as positive current flow during the negative portion of the sine wave. This results in a much cleaner DC power signal. The addition of a capacitor in the output circuit will clean up the signal very nicely.

How varactor diode used as parametric amplifier?

A varactor diode is most commonly used as the variable reactor. The varactor is a semiconductor pnjunction diode, and its junction capacitance is varied by the application of a steady signal from a local microwave oscillator, called the pump. Amplification of weak signal waves occurs through a nonlinear modulation or signal-mixing process which produces additional signal waves at other frequencies. This process may provide negative-resistance amplification for the applied signal wave and increased power in one or more of the new frequencies which are generated.

How diode can be used as switch?

No, a diode can rectify an AC signal but is not able to amplify an AC signal. Diodes are two layer devices whereas transistors have three. It is this very thin 'base' region in the transistor that gives it the ability to give a voltage or current gain.

What is the difference between electric diode and electronic diode?

Not sure of your context. A diode is a diode. One artificial distinction might be that an electric diode refers to a diode used in a higher power application with more current where an electronic diode might be found on a circuit board as part of an electronic lower power application.

What is the difference between diode and converter?

Diode: Which allows power in one direction or which converts AC to dc . Converter: Which converts DC to DC

What are the active electronic components?

Active devices are those devices which can produce power or which can amplify the signal Such devices are- diode transistor op-amp

Can a diode power a circuit?

An ordinary diode, no. It has nowhere to get energy from. But a solar cell is a type of diode that converts light to electricity. So it is a diode that can power a circuit. So yes, there is one type of diode that can power a circuit.

How do you calculate Signal to Noise ratio?

It can be calculated by simplifying the ratio between power of signal by power of noise

What is the difference between p n junction and zener diode?

The difference between the pn-junction diode and the zener diode is that the pn-junction diode is used for rectification while the zener diode is used for rectification and stabilization. Also, the zener diode can function in the breakdown region while the pn-juntion diode can not function in that regime.
