A one diode rectifier is called a half wave rectifier and only allows current flow for the positive portion of the sine wave. A two diode rectifier, or full wave rectifier allows positive current flow during the positive portion of the wave as well as positive current flow during the negative portion of the sine wave. This results in a much cleaner DC power signal. The addition of a capacitor in the output circuit will clean up the signal very nicely.

What happens to the output when one of the diode becomes open in full wave bridge rectifier?

The output degrades to a half-wave rectifier.

Why diode don't allow the current coming in opposite direction?

Diode is known as a rectifier because it only allows the current to flow in one direction. Diode is only effective when the input is AC.

What is the difference between controlled and uncontrolled rectifier?

A simple rectifier is a diode. It only has two terminals and will only allow electron flow in one direction only. A controlled rectifier (SCR=silicon controlled rectifier) has a third connection (gate). Which as the name suggests, is a gate that controls at which point the rectifier will work. It therefore has a level of control. There are various types and you would need the application specification, to get the best use of them.

What happens when one of three diode is removed from 3 phase full wave rectifier?

A: Then the phase that the diode is remove will not work or Rather get an output

Why full eave rectifier rectifies negative half cycle?

the rectifier is Mainly used to convert the Ac current into DC current .In rectifier there are two diodes or (4 Diode In full wave bridge rectifier )are use is to conduct the current one is connected in forward bias(i.eD1) and the other is connected in reveres bias(i.eD2). As we know that the diode is conduct the current throw it When it is connected in forward bias . now when the voltage is applied to the circuit the the AC Current is start to flow throw circuit and in Positive half cycle of Ac current the Diode is Allow the current Pass throw it and during the Negative half cycle the Diode D2 is allow the current pass throw it and in these way the rectifier rectifies positive As Well As the negative half cycle

Difference between 4 diodes and 2 diodes rectifier?

a 2 diode rectifier is a center tap rectifier an a 4 diode rectifier will be a bridge rectifier *********************************************************** A two-diode rectifier is not always a centre-tap rectifier. If the two diodes are connected to the same end of a transformer's secondary, one by its anode and one by its cathode, one will proved a positive voltage with respect to trhe other end of the winding and the other will provide a negative voltage. (But perhaps that isn't considered a two-diode rectifier - but a two single-diode ones.)

What is the purpose of half wave rectifier?

it has only one diode

What is the circuit diagram of half wave rectifier?

Just one diode.

What happens when one of the diodes is removed from the bridge rectifier?

Nothing will happen to the diode but that rectifier effectively becomes a half-wave rectifier.

What is circuit diagram of reactifier?

A rectifier is at least two diodes, one anode is connected to the other diode's cathode. ANSWER: Any single diode can be a rectifier without being double or quadruple

Why diode is used as a rectifier?

Diode rectifies the AC signal. So it was called as rectifier. ******************************************** Rectification means changing a.c. to d.c. A diode is a one-way device, i.e. it allows current to pass in only one direction, so it is the obvious choice for rectification.

What happens to the output when one of the diode becomes open in full wave bridge rectifier?

The output degrades to a half-wave rectifier.

Are diodes rectifiers?

No. Diodes are diodes. One diode can be USED as a half-wave rectifier. Four diodes can be used to build a bridge rectifier.

Why transfer characteristics cannot be obtained for a bridge rectifier?

Its because one of the diode gets shorted. The diode in the left lower arm in a bridge rectifier gets shorted by the ground points of both the cro and the function generator.

Four diode bridge rectifier if one diode is faulty?

if one diode is open circuited(a break in the circuit): it will act as a half wave rectifier .only +ve or -ve 1/2 cycles available at o/p. if one diode is short(more probable case due to burn out). this place a short across source for one half cycle, may destroy circuit.

Why use the PN junction diode in rectifier?

We use pn junction diode in rfctification as a rectifier becase it allows current to flow in one direction only, i.e. in forward biase only , and stop current to flow in reverse baised. thats why we use pn junction diode in rectification.

Why diode don't allow the current coming in opposite direction?

Diode is known as a rectifier because it only allows the current to flow in one direction. Diode is only effective when the input is AC.
