Researchers have to overcome many technical challenges before gene therapy will be a practical approach to treating diease. Sometimes the vector doesn't reach the right body tissuses or goes into the wrong part of the cells DNA. The body may not be able to control the vector also the vector could gain back it's ability to cause dieases. And the vector could carry a virus so the immune system will fight back killing the vector. Making the gene therapy a waste of time, money and effort.
one disadvantage is that when you come to know that you have a defected gene which could cause some disease/disorder, you have 2 options. go in for a very expensive treatment or go on with life knowing that you have a disease. many ppl dun have the money to spend on the expensive treatments.
the second thing is it can be used for not-so-important purposed, like looking younger, being tall, having a smaller nose etc..again its controversial...is baldness enough a reason to carry out gene therapy as comaperd to cancer?
also, many ppl have a prob wid prenatal screening (to find defective genes in the baby when you're pregnant). there are many legal, and ethical issues.
depending on the type of gene therapy, der r disadvantages and advantages for each method used to administer gene therapy.
having said all that, gene therapy gives someone with a disease a chance to live a normal life!
there is a range of disadvantages and advantages.
since there are two types of gene therapy : somatic and germ-line
there are different advantages and disadvantages.
disadvantages of somatic: it only affects the individual
advantages of germ-line: offsprings can inherit the changes and thrfore the healthy gene can be passsed down line line.
viral vectors must be carefully controlled lest they infect the patient with a viral disease. Some vectors, like retroviruses, also can enter cells functioning properly and interfere with the natural biological processes
one advantage for gene therapy is that this may be the cure for many suffering from sickle's anemia

Viral vectors are the tools used in gene therapy.
The main purpose of gene therapy is in cancer or tumor. The main purpose of tumor is the uncontrolled cell division. The gene responsible for the uncontrolled cell division is replaced or removed by the gene therapy. Other main treatment which disease are caused by the defect of particular gene. Other purposes are against some hereditary diseases like Cystic fibrosis or Trisomy.
The answer for this is quiet controvesial as we ourself have given the uncureable diseases like cancer, aids, etc. which have become the dangerous of all now when we are finding the therapy or treatment against them we are looking for gene therapy also some of the disease like deformities which can be treated by gene therapy of fetous when it is sttill in mothers womb but we did not care from where it comes it is increasing due to our own habits of bad eating and drinking so i think it is may be our need but is due to some of our demands which causes this to come
no one knows and no one cares
Gene TherapyGenetic disorders are caused by an abnormality in person's DNA.
gene therapy is when a faulty gene is repaired or replaced
at the gene level gene therapy is done and at the the protein level protein therapy is done
gene therapy.
With the help of Gene therapy we can replace or supress the cancer gene

Gene therapy effects children by helping to cure disease and to lengthen lives. Gene therapy can also be used to eliminate diseases that are inherited.
The main goal of the Genetherapy is to correct the defective genes. There are 4 types of gene therapy .they are1. Somatic Gene therapy and another is 2.Germ line gene therapy 3.Enhancement genetic engineering4. Eugenic genetic engineering.
Gene therapy is a method that aims to cure inherited diseases by providing the patient with correct copy of the defective gene. There are four potential approaches to gene therapy:1)Addition of normal gene to replace the function of defective gene. This is gene replacement orgene augmentation therapy.2)Replacing the defective gene with the correct gene. This isCorrective gene therapy.3)Establishment of alternative pathways that bypass mutant genes function4)Change in regulation of normal or mutant genesThe first two are the basic approaches in gene therapy
Gene therapy is shown promise in controlling Cystic Fibrosis.
