First of all, since the dam was finished, the soil in Egypt is degrading. Today, more than a half of it is rated medium to poor. Second, the construction itself cost 1 billion dollars and the Egyptian government had taken a loan of more than 300 million dollars.

Aswan High Dam was built over the Nile River in Aswan, Egypt. Aswan High Dam is important for these reasons:

* To stop the Nile River form flooding. Floods can harm agriculture. * To save fresh water.

* To generate electricity, i.e. hydroelectricity.

disadvantages were that people had to be forced to move from homes and the fertile meant that when digging up the ground to build the aswan dam it meant that it would kill the fertiles causing the less food for land
