Dragonspawn have been created as part of an experiment by Deathwing and Nefarian, where draconian Humanoids were created as soldiers and commanders for the black dragon armies. Some say they were made from Humanoid worshipers who lived with the Dragons for so long, that they took on their shapes.
Each of the Dragonflights has Dragonspawn and Draconids of their respective color, while the Black Dragonflight also makes use of the artifically created Chromatic Dragonspawn, which show traits of all flights.
The Chromatic Dragonspawn are level 58-60 elite dragonkin that are found in Blackrock Spire. They have between 14,805 and 16,260 health. Their two abilities are cleave and strike (inflicts increased melee damage). When skinned they will drop 1-2 rugged leather, a dragonscale (red, black, blue, green or worn), a thick hide, or 1-2 thick leather. Aside from all the normal trash drops and potions, these guys have a chance of dropping a Chromatic Dragonscale (a blue quality item used in making a Chromatic Cloak).
