I don't know where you get the Idea that there are only 8 Major commands in the USAF I can think of more than that. There are two types of commands: functional and geographical.
ACC Air combat command
AETC Air education and training command
AFMC Air force material command
AFSPC Air force space command
AFSOC Air force special operations command
AMC Air mobility command
PACAF Pacific air forces
USAFE US Air force Europe
AFRC Air force reserve command
ANG Air national guard
FOAs, DRU, & AUXILIARY Field operating agencies.
