Usually anything but .exe, but if you can tell the recipient what file type it is, you can change it to an extension that the e-mailer allows, then they can change it back and use the file.

This is a very general question so it is hard to answer. Depending on what your attachments are and what email you are using there may be a size limit. If the file size is to large(ex:sending pictures, if it is too large you wont be able to send it you will need to resize the image)it wont send.
