David picked up five stones to battle Goliath. He picked up five, not because he did not have faith in God or his victory.
I Samuel 17:40 says that David "chose five smooth stones from the wadi."
I don't know who killed Goliath with five stones, but i do know who killed Goliath with ONE stone and that was David.
David collected five smooth pebbles.
1 Samuel 17 says that David picked "five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag", but doesn't specifically state why 5 exactly. Some commentaries (such as David Guzik) speculate that David picked 5 stones because there were 5 giants, Goliath and his 4 brothers (2 Samuel 21).
easy answer actually. Its King David and he took the five stones from the brook because he knew/heard of Goliath having 4 (giant) brothers that may also come after him on the battlefield (bible tells story of his needing help in slaying them; 2 Samuel 21:15-22 ). shows how SHARP David was.

Five Stones is a traditional Indian game.
I Samuel 17:40 tells us that David chose 5 smooth stones, but there is no mention of why the number 5? David was like most persons in that no one would take just one bullet for a pistol against a giant or an enemy soldier.
Some believe it is because Goliath had three brothers and a father still living. They believe David knew he would probably have to kill the whole family. [Back in those times the laws of an eye for an eye etc... were used and it would have been within the right of the family [Goliath's] to obtain vengeance against David.]But, could it really be that David was so confident and faithful to God that he picked up a stone for each remaining giant just in case they wanted revenge? Why not? However, the question comes to mind, "Do we have any indications that David, the keeper of sheep, knew anything about Goliath beyond his defiance of the Lord and the armies of Israel?"Therefore, there are also some who believe David picked up five stones because the number five in Scripture is the number of grace.David is the type of Christ and by His grace He will slay all the Goliaths in our lives IF we trust Him by faith.
Yes.
