Principally Coal, Petroleum and Natural Gas.

  • Canada's reserves of oil place it second in terms of proven reserves, behind only Saudi Arabia. It is contained in sand deposits, some very deep, which are variously known as "Tar Sands" or "Oilsands". Unfortunately (to some) it requires a large amount of water and energy (typically obtained from burning a fossil fuel in the first place) to refine it. Thus it is considered "dirtier" oil by environmental groups due to its demand for water and energy, the energy needed essentially contributing to pollution more so than Liquid Petroleum drilling (as in the OPEC countries, the US, Russia and Scotland).
