The four goals of Imperialism are the need for new markets, to spread Christianity, to provide a place for the growing populations to settle, and to provide power & security of a global empire.

Other reasons for imperialism include: the need for natural resources, the wish to share western civilization, to increase the spirit of nationalism, to invest profits, Social Darwinism, and to have new bases for trade & navy ships.

They had (1) economic reasons - they wanted to gain colonies because they wanted to invest capital and make good profit; They looked for new markets for their products and searched for new resources.

(2) Strategic reasons - they wanted to protect thir previous acquisitions and the commercial routes to colonies.

(3) Poltitical reasons - they wanted to demonstrate their status by the possession of colonies and hoped to improve their political positions against each other.
