Client services
Operations
Finance
Human Resources
Marketing
Administration and IT Support
Administration- Deals with paperwork
Finance- Deals with budget and money related issues
Customer service- Deals with customers problems and questions
Distribution- Making sure goods reach their destination
Human Resources- Makes sure every one does their job up to standard/ deals with hiring and firing staff
Information Technology- Updates websites and deals with tech related problems
Marketing and Sales- The deal with advertising
Production- Produce goods to sell/give
Research and Development- Researching new ways to improve the company
All of the above are very vague areas of a business, In my opinion do a little extra research on each department.
Most management books would tell you that there are four functional areas of an organization, but some will be quick to add another one and that is R & D or Research and Development. I tend to agree on having R & D there as another component largely because of its importance in today's highly competitive and ever-evolving economic conditions. R & D is more pronounced in larger organizations than a small one.
Having said that, here then are the five functional areas of an organization or the five functional areas of management, namely:
