"A Federal agent generally has jurisdiction all over the country while a local officer has jurisdiction only in his own town, city, or county. Federal LE agents can enforce Federal Laws throughout the US. State police have full police powers throughout their state to enforce state laws. Local police have full police powers in their local area and in most states nearby towns to enforce the state laws plus within their own city or government entities (like school district police or transit police) their own governmental entities laws. Keep in mind that different Federal agencies enforce different kinds of laws, depending on the agency they work for.
Moreover, You have the FBI and DEA whose general jurisdiction might be nationwide. At the same time you have the Department of Veterans Affairs Police who's jurisdiction… You also have the Secret Service whose duties, other than protecting the President, include enforcing counterfeiting laws. Anything outside that gets referred to another agency.
Furthermore, A local police officer has very broad authority, but limited jurisdiction. A Federal Agent has very Some of the states only give state enforcement powers to certain federal agencies, such as the D.O.J. which includes FBI, Marshal, DEA, Border Patrol.
