A general number for timing is around 10 but that can change based on the engine setup. The idle speed also depends on the set up but its about 900-1000 and 700-800 in gear with a stock engine.
I know the timing is 6 degrees Before TDC but I don't know what the idle RPM is.. I'm trying to find that myself right now...
Stock ignition timing at idle is 6 deg BTDC +/- 1 deg. I like to set mine for about 7 or 8 deg BTDC. Kyrasis6 Mazdatruckin.com
engine idle set too high or the timing is off and needs reset.
Ignition Timing Initial/Static: 8@Idle C/S
try adjusting the ignition timing(or getting a mechanic to do it)
cam timing will not change ignition timing i would try 8 or 10 degees advance at idle with the vacuum advance disconnected.
Ignition Timing degree B.T.D.C at idle speed 20 degree plus or minus 2 degree
Ticking on acceleration is usually the ignition timing, get it tuned..
Check Timing First Sounds Like That Is Your Problem. If it turns out to not be the ignition timing, it could also be the camshaft timing. If your camshaft is mistimed it means that your timing chain or timing belt has slipped and must be replaced.
autozone.com has online manuals that give you all that info Also just look under the hood. There you will find a placard with this some if not all this information.
Even so eclipse uses distributor based ignition system, I'm not sure that you can adjust timing. The timing you can adjust is idle timing. But it basically never needs to be adjusted.
