Where are the spark plugs?

Spark plugs are threaded into the cylinder head on the engine. They are sometimes hard to locate because of the use of composite materials used to hide their appearance. Automotive manufacturers like the idea of a sleek flat looking engine bay, so they hide it all behind plastic.

Look for 4, 6, or 8 (depending on the number of cylinders in your vehicle) wide heavy gauge wires grouped together. Follow these to your spark plugs.

One note to add, not all cars have ignition wires. Such as the GM quad 4 motor for one. On the top of the motor there is a coil housing cover that needs to be removed to access them.

How do you change the back 3 spark plugs on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix?

undo motor mount in front and put jack under engine and gently lower engine until you can see back plugs

Well, if you want to make it harder on yourself, you can change them the way I did on my 98 Grand Prix. Don't mess with motor mounts and just try to reach back there using a mirror and skinny hands to pull wire off, untighten, replace, retighten, wire back on, and lose 2-3 tools in the engine compartment that never fell through to the ground. It was fun!!

Make sure the car wheels are chocked. Be on level ground. Make sure the transmission is in Park. Remove the forward most bolts in each of the two motor mounts in front of the engine. Have someone help you push the car forward and the engine will move away from the firewall as you do this. once you get the car forwrd enough make sure you have the wheels chocked again so the car can't roll backwards. You will see an "eye" on the bottom of the motor mount that you can stick the bolt back trough once you get the engine rocked forward enough. Once you get the bolt in the eye you will have plenty of room to get down behind the engine. You can go further if you don't want to use the bolt through the eye. Just push the car forwrd even more and chock the wheels again. You will want to make sure that whatever you have securing the wheels will not come out. You wouldn't want it to happen and get you arm pinned in between the firewall and the engine.

Just changed spark plugs on my 98 Grand Prix with 3.8L V-6. Was able to get to back spark plugs without moving engine, although you may skin some knuckles--my hands and arms are not skinny. The hardest part was removing the old wires--twist the boot first to break them free from the spark plug before trying to remove them. I also replaced the wires as a precaution and since I found some cracks at the wire-to-boot base. You will need a ratchet with a flex head and a short extension between the ratchet and spark plug socket to ease removal. Using dielectric grease on the boot before installing it on the new plugs should ease removal of the wire in the future if you need to.

What could cause a 1993 Grand Prix LE to stall and not start again?

Answer

It would help knowing a little more about what's going on, Have you put an in line pressure tester on your fuel system to make sure you are still getting proper fuel? Most often in these situations faulty fuel pumps can be the problem. You can also put a tester on one of your spark plugs after removing it and putting the wire back on to see if it is an electrical problem. Feel free to email me with more info if I can help any further.

Answer

The crank-sensor can and often does cause this type of problem. After the vehical has ran for a few moments, it starts to miss, then caugh and finly stop and leave you stranded if that is what is happening to you? You may want to give the crank-sensor a strong look.

It could be the ignition modual, when it heats up one of the cooling packs are bad but if you let the engine cool it will start. to check this pull one spark plug wire off and hold it a half inch away and crank engine you should get a spark jumping from wire to modual, if not replace the modual. this should be done after engine heats up and stalls.

How do you change the sparkplugs and wiring on a 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix LE V6?

The front plugs are simple to get to, just follow the wires down to them. The rear ones are a slight bit more difficult. Make sure to set the parking break, block the wheels, or both. There are 2 engine mounts (look kinda like dog bones) that go from the front end to the engine. Remove the one that does not have an extra little loop underneath and remove the engine side bolt from the other. Make sure that the car is not going to move, put the transmission in neutral. You can easily rock the engine forward and reinstall the bolt that you removed from the mount that is still on the car through the smaller hole on the bottom of the dog bone. You should be able to access the rear plugs without much trouble.

i removes my alternator and they sit right there without removing the engine mount.

If it has a 3.1 remove the alternator and you will have easy access to them.

Where is the blower relay and resistor on a 1998 Silverado?

AnswerTHE BLOWER RELAY IS BEHIND YOUR GLOVE BOX. REMOVE THE BOX AND IT WILL BE TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BLOWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY. LOOKS LIKE A CONNECTOR. HOWEVER, YOUR RELAY MAY NOT BE BAD EVEN THOUGH IT CLICKS. 9 OUT OF 10 ITS YOUR BLOWER MOTOR...

If you are talking about the blower relay for the fan motor because fan motor does not work, and you find out this is not the problem, I have a 1999 silverado where the fan motor stop working. Replaced the dash switch, did not fix the problem. Figured fan motor was bad. While attemping to remove the fan motor under the dash, there was a plastic cover attached to the motor which I removed and found a small circuit board that was showing a burnt spot. Replaced this circuit board first before going futher. This fixed my problem. Cost for the board from the dealer at the time (2005) was $30. Had I known about this board, could have save myself $165 replacing the dashboard switch.

Why would your 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix downshift while being driven and what can be done to fix the problem?

While I may not have the answer, I can sure offer a possible. I suffered the same question with my 1987 Pontiac 6000 STE. I took the car to a number of qualified mechanics and Pontiac service centers. As you can imagine, every one of them were more than willing to install a new transmission. I even took it to an old family friend who told me it's time to "put her down". After all the car did have 390K miles on the drive train. Anyway, after months of agonizing over this issue, it came to me like a light. Many of the functions of these modern cars, are inter-related. If one function characteristic changes, others compensate for that change. In my case, I was able to establish a pattern. By watching the temperature gauge.Once it dropped below 160 degrees the transmission would down shift. When the temp rose back to 180+ it would upshift. I deduced my thermostat was stuck open and everytime the engine temp dropped too low to keep the engine fucntioning effeciently the transmisssion responded. I changed the thermostat and solved my problems. I drove that car for another 80K miles without another downshift issue. That $6.00 purchase saved me $2800 on a new transmission! Give it a shot.

Why would a car with new spark plugs sputter?

Hey Lisa==If it started when the plugs were installed they could be the wrong brand or gap, or the wires and rotor and cap could need replaced. GoodluckJoe A common mistake for this happening after the plugs were installed and the car ran fine beforehand is that the plug wires were put back on the wrong cylinders. If you check all that and it all checks out good, you might have bad gas.

How do you change the headlamp bulb in a 2000 Hyundai Accent?

NO TOOLS REQUIRED ! Unplug the wire on the back of the head light. Remove the black rubber boot it might be tight but work it off pulling around on it and it will come right off. There is a spring that holds the bulb in. One side of the spring has two ends the other has one. On the side with one Push on the spring and away from were it is hooked pay attention to the position the prongs which end is up. This will help you put the new one in right, bulb is ready to removed. Insert the new bulb avoid touching the glass. Insert the bulb by holding the back of the bulb. line the tabs up with the prongs for the wires in the position that you removed the old one from. Lock the spring back in place pushing the spring down and locking it back in place. Install the rubber boot making sure you get it pushed on all the way with the top side up. Which is marked on the boot. Plug the wire back up. Repeat on the other side.

You could have a bad switch or a loose wire on it but I would check your door pins wiring to make sure they are working properly as well as a loose wire could be grounding out and turning it on. Just my thoughts.

Where can you find a picture of the knock sensor in Pontiac Grand Prix?

If this is the 93 Grandprix with the 3.1 eng. the Knock sensor is located just under the manifold back next to the fire wall you can see it from the bottom. It's hard to get to if you have small hands you can touch it from the bottom. However it is much easer to let the eng. cool down lean over the eng. close to the front of the eng. if you can get your hand and arm back there it is much easer to remove and replace from that point. I know I did one from the bottom it took 1.5 hours from the top it less than 15 minutes.
