During the Cold War period, Cuba was the staunchest ally of the USSR and received important economic and military support from the USSR. Now that the Cold War is over, Cuba remains hostile to the US but no longer is a client state of the Soviet Union (which no longer exists). The leading issue would be, how can Cuba improve relations with the US and end the blockade. Whether Cuba should continue to be a communist Dictatorship, or might prefer to become a more democratic nation with a free enterprise economic system, would also be a major question.
