The large airways that branch off the trachea are the mainstem bronchi. These branch into progressively smaller bronchioles.
bronchi
Primary brochi first enter the lungs on both the left and right sides.
These are the bronchi. (One bronchus, two bronchi).
The esophagus is a tube the connect the oral cavity to the stomach. The trachea is a tube that connects the oral and nasal cavity to the lungs.

Passages through which air enters the lungs is called the bronchi which branch off of the trachea.
Bronchi are the main airways in the respiratory system that branch off from the trachea. They are lined with mucus-producing cells and ciliated cells that help trap and remove foreign particles from the air. The bronchi also contain smooth muscle that can contract or relax to control airflow.
The right and left primary bronchus which are the branches of trachea.
major bronchi
The windpipe is known as the trachea, and it connects to the two bronchi, which then branch off and eventually reach the alveoli in the lungs.
Starting from the left and right bronchi, bronchus for singular, these branch down from the trachea. Then the bronchi branch off to smaller bronchi and these branch off to bronchioles. The bronchioles contain air sacs at the end called alveoli and alveolus for singular.
Two things that are needed to prevent food from entering airways are the uvela and the epiglottis. The uvela prevents food from entering the nasal cavity and the epiglottis closes off the trachea so food will go down the esophagus.
