Windermere is the largest, and one of the few lakes in England. Loch Ness, Loch Lomond, Loch Linnhe, Loch Rannoch and Loch Tay are just a few of the many lochs in Scotland. 'Loch' is the Scottish word for 'lake'.

There is only 1 lake in the Lake District, Bassenthwaite Lake, the rest are meres (Windermere, Buttermere, Thirlmere ect) and waters (Wastwater, Derwent, Ennerdale ect)

It depends how you measure " largest". The question is probably referring to largest by area, and this is Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland. Area is the most common way to measure the size of a lake.

However, Loch Ness in Scotland has the most total volume of water of any lake in the UK, because it is deepest.
