a mufti: is a Muslim who has a high level of Islamic education who can give solutions to new or uncommon situations based on Qur'an and Islamic teachings. He can be right or wrong.

an imam is a Muslim scholar of Islamic texts (Qur'an, The Messenger's speeches...) he can teach others or he can lead the prayers, give speeches.
