Australia's largest and longest river is the Murray River.
The Murray River has a total length of 2508km. Sometimes, the Darling River is regarded as the longest, as there are numerous tributaries in the north which make up the start of the Darling - but these are separate rivers. The Darling is, in fact, only the third-longest river in Australia, coming after the Murray and the Murrumbidgee.

Although the Darling and Murray Rivers are two quite separate rivers, together with their numerous tributaries, they form the largest river system in Australia, referred to as the Murray-Darling system.
