UK(United Kingdom), Great Britain, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are the name of the British countries. They're also British countries as well because they're not just the name of the British countries. They are British countries but they speak English like people in the United States.
Note: The United States is not a British country.
It changed its name to the British Commonwealth in 1931 and started to disintegrate from 1947 onwards as the various countries demanded independence.

If the coin has no country name on it, it is British, otherwise, it could have come from any of the 50 plus British Empire/Commonwealth countries.
Queen Elizabeth II appears on all British coins from 1953 to present day. Traditionally, British coins do not have the country name marked on them. Also, being the nominal or titular head of state of many of the 50 plus British Empire/Commonwealth countries, she would appear on the coins of many of those countries as well. Most, if not all of these countries should show the country name on the coin.
The two countries that had most to do with America in the 16th centaury were the British and the Dutch. The Dutch never owned all of America but the British did after the Anglo- Dutch war. So the British and the Dutch owned America at one time.
