Susan Atkins, (died of brain cancer in 2009), Patricia Krenwinkle, Leslie Van Houten, Charles 'Tex' Watson and of course Charles Manson.

*Bobby Beausoleil was arrested prior to the above family members for the murder of music teacher Gary Hinman. Hinman's murder preceeded the Tate-LaBianca killings by several weeks and was initially not associated with other Manson family murders.

All of the above mentioned Manson family members have requested parole numerous times and all attempts have been refused by the California Parole Board.

What were Charles Manson's responsibilities?

If you mean what was his part in the 9 murders in August 1969, then the answer is that he was 100% responsible for all the murders and was largely responsible for ruining the lives of his young 'family' members that carried out his orders.

Who was responsible for the Tate-LaBianca murders?

The Tate-LaBianca murders were carried out by followers of Charles Manson, a cult leader. Manson himself did not directly participate in the murders but orchestrated them through his followers, who became known as the Manson Family. Manson's motive was to incite a race war he called "Helter Skelter."

Why do people become murders?

they became murders because something may of happen in their lives E.G. losing family members!!

Why was the Manson family formed?

First and formost, Manson was a 'cult' leader. The only reason for a cult to exist is the exploitation of members by a tyrannical leader. This is the only reason for the family's existance. Manson's hold over these young people was no different than Rev. Jim Jones or David Koresh's total domination of the members of their 'church'.

What is the name of the cult that Charles Manson led?

Charles Manson led "the Manson Family"

Were all of Manson family killings due to racsism?

Almost all of them were not. That is not to say that Manson wasn't a biggot, he was. He hated minorities and Jews. But his crimes were not about race. In Maury Terry's expose on satanic cults, Manson ordered the Tate murders due to drug deals and Manson's anger at Abigail Folger and her boyfriend Wojech Frykowski. The common denomiator was in fact a satanic cult known as The Process. The race war was not the underlying reason for the murders.

Did Charles Manson family know who lived at 10050 Cielo Drive before they killed them?

Manson had been to the house on Cielo Dr. months before the murders looking for record producer Terry Melcher. In fact Melcher did live there at one time and he owned the home which he rented to director Roman Polanski and his wife Sharon Tate. Manson was furious after Melcher took a pass on Manson's music. So the murders on that August night in 1969 were not entirely random. The next night Manson ordered the killing of Leno and Rosemary LaBiana, their killings only slightly more random than the Tate murders. Manson had been to a house in the neighborhood of the LaBianca's so he was familiar with the area.

Was Squeaky Frome part of the Manson family?

She was. If fact she was one of the first members, meeting Manson in San Francisco in 1968. They migrated south, adding new members as they found them. Frome was also the oldest of the female family members, and probably had the most in higher education. (college) If Frome wasn't famous enough for being a member of Manson's family, she was imprisoned after trying to assissinate President Ford. She seemed rather lost after Manson's arrest. As the oldest she more or less took over the running of the family, or what was left of it, and tried to hold it together until (what they thought anyway) would be the day when Manson would be released.

What are the other names of the people in Charles Manson's family?

Below is a link to a list of Manson's family members. It should be noted however that many of the young people that may have had contact with Manson and his regular group would just drift in and out due to the transient ways of the people of that era.

When was the family assembled related to Charles Manson?

There seems to be a difference of opinion as to the actual origins of the Manson family. Some sources say Mary Burnner was the first 'member' while others say Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme. I personally think Squeaky was the first female member. Whether it was Mary or Squeaky, Manson started his collection of misfits and outcasts in the Haight-Ashbury of San Franscico about the year 1967. As Manson moved south to Los Angeles he picked up more family members along the way. By the time the group were living at Spahn's Movie Ranch there were at least 20 more or less permanent members. And of course there were a few that would come and go, like a Santa Ana wind. These were usually men. It was no mistake on Manson's part that most of his family members were women. For him they were easier to contol and manipulate. *Interesting point:More than 40 years have come and gone since the Tate-LaBianca murders and most of the family members are on the wrong side of middle age now. Long ago most of them 'deprogrammed' and joined the real world again. Long ago Atkins, Krenwinkle, Van Houten discovered their fatal error in following and giving up the own will to a killer like Manson, but with the exception of two. Lynette Squeaky Fromme and Mary Brunner still seem to have affection and a certain amount of loyalty to Charles Manson. I just find it interesting that the two probable 'original' members of the family still seem to be stuck in a time warp where Manson is concerned.

How many people were in The Manson Family?

Hi! im researching the Manson Family Cult aswell, according to my findings i have found there are 9 members involved in the cult, including Charles Manson himself the leader! There were also the pet dogs which were treated at a higher rank to that of the members of the cult, Charles Manson believed that the dogs are better than people and should eat before humans. In which, the dogs would eat first and the members would eat the left overs. i have much more information. if needed ask! Monique! :)

Where did Charles Manson murder?

As far as anybody knows, Manson's murders were mainly on the West coast, mostly in Southern California. Manson and his followers wandered up and down the west coast from below L.A. to Washington state. There are always unsolved murders and missing persons that are never found, so who knows. You can't hang a man on speculation.
