The orange river named after the Dutch Royal House of Orange is South Africa's longest river and plays an important role in the economy of S.Africa. It rises in the Drakensberg mountains (Lesotho) and flows westward, passing through two dams, to empty into the Atlantic Ocean. Its mouth is completely blocked by rapids and sand bars.
