This is a huge question. It depends on what is the limit of ANCIENT . But China was always with an emperor. The concentration of power was always be strengthenned. But emperor was actually be controlled by civillian in most of time. Emperor was not free but able to get an umbelievable life with luxurious foods and other enjoyable things.

It is hard to tell you what china politics of ancient China was. If you are interisted in it. You can compare with it to ancient Europe. Finally as a Chinese, i think you can learn more by learning chinese and to find the answer from real Chinese history.

holy crap this answer is so broad...but anyway the politics if you're talking about the government is mainly one emperor with the 'mandate of heaven' and a whole class of scholar-bureaucrats who manage the affairs of the kingdom. also nobility and stuff.
