Juana la loca of Castilla, mother of the king Charles I, who reigned with her.
She was the daughter of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. She was married to Phillip, who was the son of the Holy Roman Emperor. Her son Charles became Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain.
Catherine of Aragon had three older sisters, the most famous of them was Juana la Loca (aka Juana/Joana of Castile). She was known for marrying Philip "the Handsome" of Castile, giving birth to Charles V (who later in Catherine's time would become the Holy Roman Emperor) and for exhibiting wild, erractic behavior (possibly due to schizophrenia).
Charles I and his Mother Juana la Loca ruled Spain at that time. Charles I of Spain was also Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire. Juana was the daughter of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabel I of Castile. They were the first Catholic Monarchs of a united Spain.
