What are some of the Muslim rites of passage?

* Birth - when a baby is born, the Muslim call to prayer, known as the Adhan, is recited into the baby's right ear by the father. * On or after 7 days - if the baby is a boy, then he will be circumcised (although this can be done at any time up until puberty). Once the baby is seven days old, he or she will be named. At this time the family will also sacrifice a sheep in a celebration known as Aqeeqah. In the UK this is done at a slaughter house and the meat will be shared with family, neighbours and the poor.

There are no rituals..just customs or ways to celebrate or what to do on certain days like in Ramadan we fast on Eid we celebrate by being with family and friends.

The "five pillars" of Islam: In Islam, faith and good works go hand-in-hand. A mere verbal declaration of faith is not enough, for belief in Allah makes obedience to Him a duty. The Muslim concept of worship is very broad. Muslims consider everything they do in life to be an act of worship, if it is done according to Allah's guidance. There are also five formal acts of worship which help strengthen a Muslim's faith and obedience. They are often called the "Five Pillars of Islam." * Testimony of faith (Kalima) * Prayer (Salat) * Almsgiving (Zakat) * Fasting (Sawm) * Pilgrimage (Hajj)

Daily life as a Muslim: While often seen as a radical or extreme religion, Muslims consider Islam to be the middle road. Muslims do not live life with complete disregard for God or religious matters, but nor do they neglect the world to devote themselves solely to worship and prayer. Muslims strike a balance by fulfilling the obligations of and enjoying this life, while always mindful of their duties to Allah and to others. * Morals and manners * Business ethics * Modesty in dress and behavior * Dietary rules * Marriage * Care of children and elderly * Racism and prejudice * Relations with non-Muslims

There are five things that Muslims deem essential rituals. They are known as the pillars: confession, prayer, offering, fasting, and pilgrimage.

The Islam has Five Pillar.

The five pillars of Islam make up the basic foundations of belief, for a Muslim. The five pillars consist of:

1. The Belief in the Oneness of God (Allah) and his Prophet and Messenger, Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). 2. Salaat means (prayers), the five daily prayers 3. Saum means (Fasting) 4. Zakaah means (the obligatory) religious tax 5. Hajj or Pilgrimage

Answer AThe Islamic rites of passage suggest that the naming of Muslim sons/daughters has a substantially important aspect in Islamic faith as even the prophet Muhammad had changed friends names as he deemed them offensive. Muhammad is the first most common name and Ali is the second most common for boys. For girls, it is common for them to be named after women from the prophets family; Aisha, Fatima, Khadijah etc. Once a child has been born parents can change their names, although it is not essential, however is used to show pride in their child(ren). Men would drop their first name in place of 'Abu' and women would replace theirs with 'Umm'. Answer BIn addition to the above, the Islamic rule is that through the whole rites of passage, the Muslim maintains his/her name including the father name (as middle name) and his/her own family name (unless he/she choses to change). The wife doesn't change her family name after marriage. In Islam, she maintains her own identity in all her responsibilities.
