Psychology could be described as a field of study which deals with human behaviour in response to its environment.Today's Nigeria with its attendant hostile socio-political environment inturn ,bear its presure on the mental health of Nigerians. As people battle to cope with the traumatic challenges of the modern society which is highly competitive and demanding there exist possiblities of psycological disorders ranging from common stress to depression and even despair and feeling of hoplessness. These could affect national productivity as well as commitment to the Nigerian project.

Again, having gone through many years of frustation in the hands governments, their is a need for a national reorientation aimed at psycheing nigerians towards an unshaking belief in the Nigerian project. This gospel can only be effective when approached from the angle of educational psychology rather than the present day political approach accorded to it.Let it embeded in the mind of citizens that doctoring an eldorado modern Nigeria is a collective responsibility. There is a need to replace the passive attitude of ''this-country''with the possessive attitude of ''our- country''.To this end, a lesson on national psychology should be introduced from the primary school level in the country.

Due to the peculiar challenges occasioned by the countries pluralistic cultural composition, the country is prone to politico-cultural extremism which could willy-nilly jeopardise the unity of the Nigerian entity. To check-mate this, all office holders should be submitted periodically to a routine psycho-analytical section to acertain their mental soundness or otherwise.

It is also worthy of mention in this discourse that ,Nigeria as part of a largly despaired global community has its own fair share of restiveness and moral emptiness which often vents itself through vices and deviant habits and behaviors. To meet these chanlenges is no doubt fundamentally the headache of the field of psychology.

As a point of departure, suffice it to say that as the 21st century Nigerian society travails through the pangs of nursing the nation, with its attendant multi-faceated economic, political and social chalenges, the role of psychology in all its import cannot be over emphasised.
