Alaska has two time zones. The Aleutian Island chain switches between HAST and Hawaii-Aleutian Daylight Saving Time (HADT). The rest of Alaska switches between Alaska Standard Time (AKST) and Alaska Daylight Saving Time (AKDT). HADT and AKST are 9 hrs. behind UTC, and AKDT is 8 hrs. behind UTC.

California, Nevada, Washington state, most of Oregon and part of Idaho switch between Pacific Standard Time (PST) and Pacific Daylight Saving Time (PDT). PST is 8 hrs. behind UTC, and PDT is 7 hrs. behind UTC.

Most of Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time (MST) all year; the only part of Arizona that observes daylight saving time is the Navaho Nation. MST is 7 hrs. behind UTC.

Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico and parts of Idaho, Oregon, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Texas switch between MST and Mountain Daylight Saving Time (MDT). MDT is 6 hrs. behind UTC.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and parts of North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida switch between Central Standard Time (CST = UTC - 6 hrs.) and Central Daylight Saving Time (CDT = UTC - 5 hrs.).
