Best Answer
  1. Man burns fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in business, transport, and the generation of electricity.
  2. This burning releases age-old additional carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.
  3. Radiation from the sun warms the earth's surface and the heat rises in the form of infrared radiation.
  4. This heat is captured by CO2 and other greenhouse gases (methane, nitrous oxide) in the atmosphere.
  5. More and more fossil fuel is burnt, and the atmosphere gets warmer and warmer.

This is global warming.

This extra heat is energy, and this extra energy is changing the climate.

The Key Points of Global Warming are:

  • The greenhouse gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, ozone prevent some of the heat we receive from the sun reflecting back into space, thus keeping the planet warmer than it otherwise would be. So far, this is quite natural.
  • However, since the 18th century, when we began to build factories, motor vehicles and power stations humankind has been slowly putting more and more CO2 into the atmosphere. Every time we burn coal, gas or oil we increase the amount of greenhouse gases and therefore add to global warming.
  • Forests too, which absorb carbon dioxide, have been cut down, and are still being cut down, all over the planet. With fewer trees, more of the CO2 goes into the atmosphere.
  • In 1800 the world population was less than one billion. Today it is close to 7 billion. Seven billion people wanting food, water and electricity and a share in the good life make colossal demands on the resources of our planet. More and more CO2 is put into the atmosphere as a result.
  • So the increase in greenhouse gases means that more of the sun's heat is being kept on the earth. The earth gets warmer. Global warming!

  1. Greenhouse gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide arrive in the atmosphere from the water cycle and the carbon cycle.
  2. Sunlight comes in and warms the earth.
  3. Heat from the warm earth radiates out into the atmosphere where some of it is captured by the greenhouse gases.
  4. The greenhouse gases warm up.
  5. Their warmth makes the atmosphere warmer, including particles of smog.
  6. Some of this heat goes back down to earth, making the earth warmer.

If there is too much carbon dioxide (from burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas) the carbon cycle can't take it all out, and the natural greenhouse effect becomes an enhanced, or accelerated greenhouse effect, getting warmer and warmer and causing global warming.

A:

  1. Incident longwave radiation is blocked.
  2. Visible and shortwave radiation heats Earth.
  3. Earth radiates longwave radiation.
  4. Longwave radiation is blocked and heats Earth.

What can teens do to help stop global warming?

Teens can take simple steps to help stop global warming. A few of these steps would be to switch to clean energy, travel green, reduce waste and use less energy.

What are those environmental issues?

Enviornmental issues are the issues or bad effects that arise out of human activities on the environment. The main environmental issues of the present days are the global warming and the felling down of trees. This is affecting us adversely and we must take necessary and immediate steps to stop it.

How will Global warming affect Canada?

It's not possible to say accurately what will happen to Canada in the future. Global warming is happening all over the world. Some places will be drier than before. Other places will be wetter than before. Warming causes weather, so more warming is certainly going to affect the weather. Low lying countries and coastlines and cities will be in danger from rising sea levels. Warming oceans expand, and this is causing the rise firstly. Melting glaciers and ice caps are a secondary reason. Places in Canada too cold for agriculture may be able to be farmed, but much of the present croplands may have to adapt or be abandoned if global warming continues.

How does using less hot water reduce global warming?

It doesn't. It makes it worse. Hotter temperature means more water vapor in the atmosphere. Water is a GHG (greenhouse gas) and when there is more of it, the temperature goes up allowing for more water - and this cycle continues until something causes the temperature to drop.

Is there something you can do to stop global warming completely?

Stop adding carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. To do this we have to move entirely to renewable energy and stop burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). Actually that might not even be enough. It might be necessary to reduce the levels of greenhouse gases from their current levels.A:There are steps that we could take to mitigate the warming. We could slow the addition of CO2, sulfur oxides, methane, and some other greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. This would be expensive but could lower current levels. Also, we have to remember that Earth has cycled in and out of ice ages many times before human activity became a factor. So, there are some natural phenomena affecting global temperatures, that we have no control over. To name a few: Earth's asymmetric orbit, varying levels of solar energy, and volcanic activity. There are others.

by burning fossil fuels

What steps have been taken to reduce global warming?

World governments agree that placing a price on carbon emissions is the most effective step that can be taken to reduce global warming. Some progress has been made, but in many countries there is not the political will needed to contribute effectively to averting disaster. There has been a lot more progress at a local level, with individuals doing their bit to reduce global warming, by reducing their electricity consumption and motor vehicle usage.AnswerThe governments have signed a Kyoto agreement to help stop global warming.

Where would global warming lead us if you did not take neccossery steps to prevent it?

It would eventually lead to extinction. It is because global warming can cause other problems like ozone depletion too.

Will the US work towards reversing global warming?

The US signed but did not ratify the Kyoto Agreement, where the countries of the world agreed to take steps to stop global warming. In November 2015, the US submitted its goals concerning global warming, aiming to reduce any future temperature rise to 2 degrees Celsius.
